Ed Kellman and the Ramble Scrambles |
|
Although Edward J. Kellman was known by those new to the area as their Town Justice, many others knew him as educator, civic leader, Town of Woodbury Parks Commissioner, World War II veteran, and the title he was most proud of "coach." In 1949, Ed joined the faculty at the Union Free School in Central Valley as Coach of All Sports. In 1952, the school centralized with others in the area to form Monroe-Woodbury Central High School and Coach Kellman served as Athletic Director, where he led a number of his football, basketball, and baseball teams to championships in the fifties and early sixties. He mentored both male and female students, athletes and non-athletes alike. Coach Kellman created an intramural program second to none and made time to aid students in the classroom and assist in the town recreation programs. In 1971, Ed was elected Town Justice of the Town of Woodbury where he served for 34 years. He did what he loved doing most, serving his friends, neighbors, community and country. |

In community service, Ed contributed his talents officiating at athletic events and was the Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association (OCIAA) Athletic Coordinator. He applied his vision, dedication and love of the outdoors while serving as Chairman of Woodbury Parks & Recreation Committee & as a member of the Orange County Parks Commission. Ed also served as a member of the Woodbury Planning Board and Woodbury Community Association and enjoyed his pastime at Central Valley Golf Club. Ed was married to his loving wife, Jean, and Ed and Jean have two daughters, Susan and Lisa. He once said that he was thankful to live in a community where he had a chance to serve and be a contributing citizen and that the people made every moment a new and wonderful experience. The Woodbury Lions Club and the Dick Wilson Scholarship Committee wish to honor the memory of Coach and Judge Edward Kellman by naming the Woodbury Country Ramble's children races the Coach/Judge Ed Kellman Ramble Scrambles. |

A Note to Parents, Guardians and Coaches The Ramble Scrambles are for all children. Whether they run, walk or do both, getting to the finish line is the goal. There are many ways to prepare for a race.
